Tim Schulze, Executive Director graduated from the University of Oregon in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. In 2009, he earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Lewis and Clark College. He then taught as a long term substitute teacher at Mill Park Elementary in the David Douglas School District in SE Portland. While there, he was able to complete his English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement practicum hours, having previously completed all the necessary coursework. This direct experience with English as a Second Language (ESL) students motivated Tim to start PDX Summer School in 2010. Tim is now a 5th grade teacher at Harrison Park K-8 School in the Portland Public School District, which is where PDX Summer School’s program now takes place.
Dawn Winalski, Director of Operations
graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2009, with certificates in Public Interest Public Service and Environmental & Natural Resources Law. She also has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Management from the University of Rhode Island. While in law school, she clerked for the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. She has worked in non-profit organizations, on political campaigns, and is currently a Judicial Clerk for the Hon. Judith H. Matarazzo at the Multnomah County Circuit Court. As the daughter of a teacher of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Dawn greatly values education.
Patricia Prevost, Director of Curriculum and
Volunteer Coordinator graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies, with a minor in Special Education from the University of Oregon in 2004 and a Master of Education degree in 2005. After college, Pat taught preschool for a year in the Corvallis School District, then went on to teach 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade for four years at Kings Valley Charter School in the Philomath School District. In 2009, she earned a reading endorsement through the Read Oregon program. Pat has since taught Title I reading to under-privileged students at Cherry Park Elementary in the David Douglas School District, and currently in the Sherwood School District.
Jessica Brandes, Director of Marketing 
graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, and a minor in Business from the University of Oregon in 2006. Jessica has worked for Nike for eight years, starting in Eugene while she attended college. She is currently working in the Department of Nike Archives researching and writing stories about Nike’s rich history and heritage. Jessica has been a Big Sister with Columbia Northwest’s Big Brothers Big Sisters for four years and serves as a board member for the Nike Bigs network. She is also a member of the Albertina Kerr Race for the Rose’s board.
Nicole Heinlein, Grant Coordinator
graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies, with minors in both Spanish and Special Education from the University of Oregon in 2004. She completed a Master of Arts in Teaching program at Pacific University in 2006, specializing in Early Childhood Education. In 2010 she earned a reading endorsement from Lewis and Clark College and is currently taking classes toward her Initial Administration License. Over the past eight years, Nicole has been a Title I reading assistant and has taught preschool, kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade. Currently, she teaches at Mill Park Elementary in SE Portland.
Loren R. Northup, Treasurer is a Certified Public Accountant and managing member of Northup & Northup LLP. He has specialized in tax and management accounting for individuals and small businesses for over 25 years. Loren holds a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology from UCLA and a Master of Arts as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Biology from the University of Oregon.
